What is TMJD?
A group of conditions affecting the jaw joint, the chewing muscles, or both. The TMJ sits just in front of your ear and moves every time you talk, chew, yawn, or swallow.
Symptoms of TMJD
- pain in front of the ear, jaw or face
- clicking, popping or grating
- locking or trouble opening fully
- headaches at the temples
- pain or fatigue when chewing
You Should Buy the TMJD Poster for Your Dental Office, Here's Why:
It's official: visual aids help patient understanding (you can read more about it here).
One study performed by a General Dental Practice in London to determine the efficacy of having visual aid posters for patient understanding found that "One hundred percent of patients preferred their diagnosis to be explained to them with visual aids."
Another meta-analysis of the literature determined that: "visual-based interventions are effective for improving health literacy and the comprehension of health-related material."
I could go on, but you get the point.
Buying this poster will help your doctor-patient communication, improve patient understanding, and overall add to the aesthetics of your office. It's a win-win-win, if you ask me.

Why I Created This TMJD Poster:
The TMJD Poster was one of my OG SandySpine launches, actually! I have learned a lot and my style has changed, so this version more accurately reflects this.
I personally have struggled with TMJD in my past and current life (hello big teeth, small jaw) and have both been treated for it as well as actively treat patients of mine in my own office Well Co. Chiropractic.
I wanted this new design to include the Trigeminal nerve (CN V),as I've had a few patients who had botched botox injections (yikes!) that affected their Trigeminal nerves & I lacked the visual representation of this. A lot of hypermobile patients present with TMJD as one of their co-morbidities in their HSD/EDS, so I created this poster to help explain their TMJD symptoms in a simpler way.

How do visual aids impact patient education in a dental setting?
According to Dental Practice Insider, "Humans process images approximately 60,000 times faster than text, and visual information is retained at significantly higher rates than verbal information alone. A 2019 study in the Journal of Dental Education found that patients who received visual explanations of their dental diagnoses demonstrated 58% better recall of the recommended treatment plan one week later than those who received verbal explanations only, and were 32% more likely to have scheduled the recommended treatment (JDE, 2019)."
